I knew I wanted to become a librarian when I realized my favorite part of my day was when I had all my students gathered around me on the floor, I was reading books to them, and they were sharing the books they were reading with each other. That's what I wanted to spend my entire day doing.
It brought me joy.
As soon as I moved into my own library, I started to build a relationship with a few students who were always searching for the next great read. Eventually they became so trusting of my recommendations, they knew whatever book I handed them would be good. They didn't even read the description.
These were my people!
That's when I started my first book club. We called ourselves the Ravenous Readers.
We had so many great adventures that I can't wait to tell you all about. There will be many blog posts about hilarious book club meetings in the "literal heart of Jesus" and a Venn diagram, Yallfest, and meeting Kiera Cass. But that's for later, this post is about my new club.
Sofa Spuds Book Club
First off, the name. My family are the Couches. Therefore, we never said couch potatoes. If you lazed around all day reading a book, you were a Sofa Spud! And what better way to spend the day than with a great book!! This is the first, and most important, item you receive in your book club subscription.
You'll also receive themed gifts related to your book. For example, in this month's selection, we are reading Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacher. It is one of the most beautiful books I have read in awhile. Had me absolutely sobbing. A big part of the story is that the main character is dealing with some serious grief and that manifest as whales dancing through the treetops. I found beautiful, watercolor whale stickers that I included so you could also have whales dancing wherever you desired. There's also a signed bookplate and art print.
Another fun part of the the Sofa Spuds Book Club is the collectible bookmark. On your first order, you'll receive a bookmark with a themed charm. Each month you continue to subscribe, you'll receive a new charm, themed for that book.
My favorite part of the Sofa Spuds Book Club is that on the last Thursday of the month, everyone gathers on Google Meets to discuss the book. And what's a book discussion without tea. There will be a special tea chosen to match the book included with your book subscription. But, it's not just a book discussion. Included with your book package will be everything you need for an activity. It might be a game, a guest speaker, or a special craft.
